Today I Laughed

Updated: Apr 15

Today I laughed,

I laughed at the burden that was once placed on my shoulders.

A burden that cornered, shattered, and broke me,

A burden that overpowered and shadowed the beauty within me.

Today I laughed,

I laughed at my choice to succumb to a broken heart.

A heart bleeding from living a life of scrutiny and anger

A heart that once thought pain was nothing but normality.

A heart that was lost in the abyss of melancholy

Today I laughed,

I laughed at the once turbulent storms of life

Turbulent storms of self-hate and never-ending waves of darkness

Storms filled with debris of lost dreams and aspirations

Today I laughed,

I laughed at the calm that came after the storm.

A calmness brought on by waves of love and assurance

A calmness blooming from a once shattered heart

A calmness brought on by the acceptance of self.

Today I laughed,

I laughed at the blooming life of assurance.

An assurance that my beauty is mine.

Beauty that is, perfectly imperfect,

Beauty that is, art

Beauty that is, unrefined

Beauty that is, undeniably mine
